New Year’s Day usually refers to the first day of the first month in the calendar.
New Year’s Day in ancient China: During the prosperous era of Yao and Shun over 4000 years ago, Yao did many good deeds for the people during his reign. However, due to his son’s lack of talent and immaturity, he did not pass on the leadership position of the “tribal alliance” to his own son, but passed it on to Shun, who had both moral character and talent. The term “New Year’s Day” first appeared in the “Book of Jin”: “Emperor Zhuan regarded the first month of Mengxia as the Yuan Dynasty, but in fact, it was the spring of New Year’s Day.” Jin Dynasty poet Xin Lan once wrote a poem: “The New Year’s Day is celebrated by the Yuan Dynasty, and Jiaqing is celebrated from here. It is a feast for thousands of years, and Xiaodatong is joyful.” It records the scene of mutual celebration on New Year’s Day at that time.
New Year’s Day is the beginning of the new year, regarded as a new starting point and hope. On New Year’s Day, people will hold some special celebration activities, such as pasting Spring Festival couplets, setting off firecrackers, and paying New Year’s greetings, symbolizing welcoming the new year, praying for family harmony, smooth career, and good health.
